Meet The Team

The humans and horses of Zenhorse®
Our Leadership Team

Founder & President
Kit has been working with horses for as long as she can remember and founded Zenhorse® out of a deep love for horses, a drive to protect wild mustangs, and a commitment to creating a space where people and mustangs could connect, heal, and grow together. She is a licensed therapist, a certified Equus Coach Master Facilitator, and Life Coach, and brings decades of experience in both horsemanship and healing-centered practice. When she’s not in the pasture, she’s usually surrounded by her three indoor cats or hanging out with Paisley and Pedro, the Bernese Mountain Dogs who’ve become unofficial Zenhorse® greeters.

Vice President
Beckah has spent most of her life performing, teaching, and choreographing dance, with the dance of energy being her primary passion now. She co-facilitates most of Zenhorse's amazing workshops and offers her healing magic to horses and humans. Her endless support and help behind the scenes helps keep everything running smoothly.

Board Treasurer
Marissa France
Despite having no prior experience, Marissa has always felt a deep connection to horses. After attending the Zenhorse® Open House 2 years ago, she felt called to start volunteering the following week and she hasn't looked back! Marissa is passionate about community service, animals, and personal growth. She is inspired by Zenhorse®'s mission to heal wild mustangs through equine interaction. In her free time, Marissa enjoys spending time with her dogs, traveling, hiking, yoga, and live music. She is excited to promote the beautiful message of the human-horse connection and support Zenhorse® alongside her adopted Mustang, Fuego.

Board Member
Peggy Lewis
Peggy has been with Zenhorse since it was a twinkle in Kit's eye. Peggy has owned horses most of her life and is passionate about ensuring their safety and care. It is Peggy's unwaivering support that makes everything that Zenhorse offers possible. Her creativity and sense of humor keep us all in good spirits!

Board Secretary
Jane Ferko
Jane is an incredible Board Member. She has such a passion for the horses and for Zenhorse. And Jane knows how to make things happen! It is largely due to Jane's support, persistence and elbow grease that Blue Sage's interior design overhaul is near completion! Jane is always thinking about what the horses and the humans need and making sure we have them. She is an amazing human, and she is Travi's person.

Board Member
Jennifer King-Decker
Jennifer, a certified Masterson Method Practitioner, was first contacted by Kit to do bodywork on the mustangs. As Jennifer started volunteering and doing regular bodywork on the horses, she became passionate about the active role horses play in the healing process at Zenhorse. She is adopter of mustang Indi, and most days she can be found out in the pasture learning more about her new friend, while also helping the mustang learn about life with humans. Jennifer has found the biggest connections come when you drop the desire to make things happen and instead pay attention to what's here today. Zenhorse has helped her translate this discovery beyond horses to the humans in her life as well.

Board Member
Michelle Huelsman
Michelle is owner of Unbridled Focus Photography, where she captures the magic of horses. She is an active volunteer and board member for Zenhorse, and her favorite horse, Sundance, holds a special place in her heart. When she’s not riding or spending time in barns with her signature crazy hair, Michelle enjoys traveling with her husband of 18 years, always accompanied by their two golden retrievers. Excited to contribute her passion for horses and photography, Michelle looks forward to supporting Zenhorse’s mission in creating transformative experiences.

Director of Operations
Tracy Martin
Tracy first came to Zenhorse® after hearing about us through our Vice President, Beckah. Though she felt called to the horses, it took her nearly two years to build up the courage to come on her own.
She joined us for a Barn Day—and has been part of the herd ever since.
As a dedicated weekly volunteer, Tracy brings a strong work ethic, joyful spirit, and deep love for the horses, the people, and the peaceful land that makes Zenhorse® so special. She has also participated in our Wild Woman Retreat, further deepening her connection to the work.
We are so grateful for all she brings and are thrilled to welcome her as our Director of Operations.
Our Herd

Mustang
Boone
Boone came to us as a 3 year old in 2023. He is from Salt Wells Creek, Wyoming. He was gathered as a yearling and became available in the Online BLM Auction in March of 2023. No one else bid on him, so we won Boone for $125. Boone is curious and very interested in people. He is not afraid of much and quickly became the leader of his little sub-herd of himself, Fuego, and Bodhi. We had to work to build his back leg strength as he did not have enough exercise in holding to build the strength he needed to use his back legs properly.

Mustang
Bodhi
Bodhi comes to us from Divide Basin, Wyoming. He was gathered as a young foal, just a few months old, and made his way through the March 2023 online auction.
He arrived at Zenhorse® in 2023 at around 2 years old. Interestingly, although he comes from a different herd and region, he and Boone were gathered just one month apart.
Bodhi is adventurous, sweet, and full of curiosity. He has a natural love for connection and seems to genuinely enjoy being with people. He is happiest when he’s the center of attention—soaking up affection, leaning in for pets, and often stepping right into the middle of whatever is happening.
He’s especially known for his willingness to pose for photos, happily taking selfies with visiting families and making sure no one leaves without a moment with him.

Mustang
Sundance
Sundance came to us from the Paisley Desert in Oregon. She was gathered at around 6 years old, already a confident mare with a strong sense of self. She arrived at Zenhorse® in 2024 at approximately 8 years old. From the beginning, it was clear she carried both strength and loss. Having foaled in the wild, we sensed she was grieving the absence of her family and the life she had known. Her transition has been met with patience and deep respect for her experience. Sundance has always been clear in her communication—opinionated, expressive, and unapologetically herself. Nothing about her journey has been rushed, and she continues to move forward in her own time.
She is a striking horse with a big heart and a spirited nature. Sundance brings honesty, presence, and a powerful sense of self to those who meet her.

Mustang
Sunna
Sunna is a mustang born in the wild in Oregon and gathered as a yearling from Beatty’s Butte. She came to Zenhorse® in 2017 at around 3 years old—and in many ways, she is where this story begins.
Kit first met Sunna during Master Facilitator training with the Koelle Institute of Equus Coaching. At the time, Sunna had no name—only a tag around her neck—and was deeply fearful and shut down. Despite days of patient support, it seemed likely she would be returned to the BLM.
Instead, Sunna made the journey over 2,000 miles to Zenhorse®, beginning a shared path of trust, healing, and relationship. That journey helped shape the mission of Zenhorse®—expanding the work to include partnering with and supporting wild mustangs in their own healing, alongside the humans they serve. Sunna remains a powerful and sensitive presence in the herd, embodying resilience, depth, and the possibility that exists when trust is allowed to grow in its own time.

American Quarter Horse
Skye
Skye is a 2011 American Quarter Horse and the matriarch of the Zenhorse® herd. She came to Zenhorse® in 2016 at around 5 years old and was the very first horse in the herd—and the only domestic horse among the mustangs.
Before Zenhorse® had a name or a mission, there was Skye. What began as a riding partnership naturally evolved into something deeper, as it became clear she was meant for this work. When Kit began training in Equus Coaching, Skye was the first partner—and she took to it with ease.
With her calm presence, kind nature, and intuitive awareness, Skye meets each person exactly where they are. She is often the first to approach, the first to connect, and a steady, reassuring presence in Meditation Circles—gently choosing where to go and who to be with.
Skye remains a teacher, a bridge, and a grounding force in the herd—carrying both where Zenhorse® began and the spirit of what it continues to become.

Mustang
Bo
Bo, whose full name is Gebo, carries a name rooted in a Nordic rune symbolizing gift, exchange, and generosity given without expectation of return.
He is a mustang born wild in 2000 and came to our attention through Evanescent Mustang Rescue and Sanctuary under urgent circumstances—less than 24 hours from being shipped to slaughter. Thanks to Peggy, who stepped in to bail him out, Bo was given a second chance.
For a long time, we knew very little about his past beyond his birth year on his freeze mark. But with the creation of the BLM’s online registry, more of his story came into focus. Bo is from the Salt Wells Creek herd in Wyoming—the same herd as Boone and Mystic—and even shares a similar build to Boone. He was adopted as a two-year-old in Oklahoma, but was never titled, and his story disappeared for many years. That is, until he resurfaced at an auction in Oklahoma in 2020, where his path ultimately led him here. Bo is a funny, loving trickster that everyone adores.

Mustang
Jo
Jo, whose full name is Wunjo, is named for the Nordic rune representing joy, love, and community—togetherness and celebration.
He came to Zenhorse® alongside Bo under urgent circumstances, also less than 24 hours from being shipped to slaughter. After Peggy stepped in to save Bo, Evanescent Mustang Rescue and Sanctuary gathered the remaining donation funds to rescue Jo as well, asking if he could come with him. Of course, we said yes.
Jo is a mustang born wild in Nevada’s Sand Springs West Herd Management Area. He was about 15 years old when he arrived in 2020.
True to his name, Jo brings a steady, easygoing presence to the herd. He is laid back, gets along with everyone, and has a special love for positive reinforcement training—especially when snacks are involved. He is a joy to work with and rarely gets caught up in any herd drama.
Jo reminds us that life doesn’t have to be complicated to be meaningful—and that sometimes the greatest gift is simply to be present, content, and part of the community.

Mustang
Travi
Travi, short for Travieso, is a Spanish mustang born wild in Colorado and estimated to have been born in 2014—the same age as Sunna. He was the first mustang to come to Zenhorse® as a foster from Evanescent Mustang Rescue and Sanctuary. When he arrived, we knew very little about his past. He carried a deeply anxious and insecure energy, and we suspected he may have been weaned too early. He needed time, patience, and space to find his footing.
And find it he has.
Today, Travi is full of personality—silly, playful, and just a little bit naughty. He has a bit of a Casanova streak, effortlessly charming the mares, who never seem to mind his attention. Beneath that mischievous “twelve-year-old-boy” energy is a horse who has come a long way in confidence and trust.
Travi’s journey eventually led him to his adopter, Jane Ferko, who graciously allows him to remain here at Blue Sage Ranch. We’re so grateful, because Travi has become a true fan favorite. Travi reminds us that growth can look like joy—that confidence can be playful—and that sometimes healing shows up as laughter.

Mustang
Fuego
Fuego is a mustang from the South Steens Herd Management Area in Oregon. He lived as a wild stallion for nearly 10 years before being gathered, and came to Zenhorse® in 2023 under unexpected circumstances.
When we arrived at the BLM facility to pick up two other mustangs, Fuego was standing nearby—having just been rejected by his adopters due to a wound on his back that may have made him unsuitable for riding. Marissa heard his story and simply said, “We can’t just leave him here.” And so, Fuego came home with us. The transition from wild freedom to confinement had been a lot for him. For a long time, Fuego wanted nothing to do with people. We honored that. He was given space, time, and the dignity to choose his own path forward. Over time, something began to shift. Fuego started to observe, to engage in his own way, and eventually to step forward—on his terms. While he still does not seek touch, he offers something just as meaningful: connection.

Mustang
Emma
Emma is a mustang born wild in Oregon, carrying with her both mystery and resilience. She does not have a freeze mark, as she was adopted from a Herd Management Area before freeze marking was standard practice. Because of this, we estimate she is in her upper 20s, though her exact age and early history remain unknown. Emma has been through more than we will ever fully know. When she was labeled “untrainable” and at risk of euthanasia, Evanescent Mustang Rescue and the incredible Lisa Sink stepped in to give her another chance. We’re so grateful they did. Since arriving at Zenhorse®, Emma has been given the time and space she needs to decompress and simply be. We chose not to change her name—she clearly knew it—and that felt like an important thread of continuity in a life that has seen so much change. Today, Emma is both sweet and deeply feeling. She has become the herd leader, quietly watching over the others and keeping the herd in balance.

Mini Horse
Lana
Lana, short for Svetlana (meaning “star” in Russian), joined us in January of 2023 at 18 years old. While she does not belong to Zenhorse®, we are so grateful to have her as part of the herd.
Lana’s person, Krystal Bolinger, has known her since she was born. When Krystal needed a place for Lana to land, we were honored to step in and welcome her here.
True to her pony nature, Lana is both sweet and just a little bit sassy. She brings a steady, approachable energy that makes her wonderful with both adults and children alike.
Lana reminds us that sometimes the brightest lights come in small, spirited packages—and that a sense of home can be created wherever there is care and connection.

Mustang
Lakota
Lakota Moon came to Zenhorse® in 2024 as a nine-year-old mustang from the Little Owyhee Herd Management Area in Nevada. He was originally gathered as a three-year-old and spent six years in holding at a Nevada correctional facility before being offered for adoption.
Lakota is a very large mustang, likely with some draft horse influence, and he carries that size with a gentle, easygoing nature. He gets along with everyone in the herd and is especially enthusiastic about mealtime.
There is a sweetness to Lakota that makes him both approachable and steady. He reminds us that strength and softness can live side by side—and that sometimes the biggest hearts come in the biggest bodies.
We are so grateful to have this lovable guy with us.

Mustang
Indi
Indi, short for Indigo Moon, was born wild in Adobe Town, Wyoming. She was gathered as a yearling and adopted by Jennifer in 2025 at just three and a half years old. Chosen in person at the Ewing BLM facility, there was something about Indi that stood out right away.
She was adopted on the Lunar New Year and quickly formed a strong bond with Lakota Moon, so it seemed fitting that her middle name also be Moon.
Indi is incredibly smart, brave, and just a little bit spicy. She brings a playful energy to the herd and keeps things interesting—often grabbing feed pans and pulling them away for herself if given the chance.
Indi reminds us that curiosity, courage, and a touch of mischief can open the door to connection in unexpected ways.

Mustang
Mystic
Mystic is a mustang from the Salt Wells Creek Herd Management Area in Wyoming—the same herd as Boone and Bo. Known for producing level-headed, people-friendly horses, Mystic carries that steady nature in her own unique way. She was born in 2018 and gathered as a three-year-old. Since then, she has shown herself to be both capable and versatile. Mystic is trained under saddle for trail riding and obstacle work, and—perhaps most impressively—will happily sit on a bean bag chair. While Mystic is not especially interested in being approached, she is clear in her preferences. If she knows your intentions are simply to offer a good neck scratch—something she greatly enjoys—she may choose to engage. On her terms.
There is an honesty in Mystic that we deeply respect. She reminds us that connection doesn’t have to look like constant closeness—and that honoring boundaries is its own kind of relationship.

Mustang
Raven
Raven is a mustang from the Snowstorm Mountain Herd Management Area in Nevada, not far from Little Owyhee where Lakota is from. She was born in 2015 and gathered as a three-year-old, and has spent time in a couple locations before finding her way to Zenhorse®.
Raven is a sweet mare who has had some training and is gradually warming up to her human friends here. She seems content with her new herd and is taking her time settling into this next chapter.
While Raven can be a bit standoffish, she is clear in what she enjoys. If you can get close enough to offer a good neck scratch, you may just find the quickest path to her heart.
There is a quiet sensitivity in Raven that we are still getting to know. We look forward to introducing her to our guests as her confidence continues to grow.

Each of these mustangs is on a journey back to health and well-being.
You can be part of their story.
Monthly herd supporters help provide care, training, and a safe, dignified life for these mustangs—while making this work possible for the humans they help heal.
